It’s a while now since I updated here and again, so much has happened! We have built 2 kennels at Snowdonia to offer another 2 dogs a safe place when their 7 days is up and now launched a campaign to sponsor them ongoing – Colin has a new summer hair cut, 135 dogs have been rehomed with our help, our Rescue Ramble is fast approaching at Marbury Park on the 28th June and I seem to have adopted a dog!!!!!!!!!
We have had such a fabulous few weeks but also some stressful times – we are VERY lucky indeed to have such marvellous support from Twitter (over 15,000 followers now, yee haa!) and Facebook where the numbers are going from strength to strength, and continue to be amazed by the generosity of folk 😉
Sadly the number of dogs coming into rescue is not diminishing – it would seem recent changes in legislation are bringing even more bull breeds into the pounds, and the statistics are getting worse not better – it is estimated that a dog is put to sleep in a UK pound every hour of every day, that is 175 dogs per week losing their lives …. Research also suggests that is a conservative number so heaven knows what the reality is – and sadly, thanks to media nonsense, irresponsible owners and breeders, the majority of those are bull breeds. Maybe one day people will see them for what they really are – maybe one day the media will replace their “Dangerous Dog” standard picture with something other than the staffy chasing bubbles (where the bubbles have been photo-shopped to leave a photo of a snappy mouth dog!)
And that my dear friend is why we must never give up. That is why we must continue to make a difference, one dog at a time. The saying goes “Saving one dog will not change the world, but the world surely changes forever for that one dog”.
Hope you might come and see us at Marbury Park this month, please bring your dog, your family & friends and a picnic – oh and a few quid in your pocket to take part in our fundraisers and buy yourself some cake 😉 xx
